Emberward Regions: All Five Areas

Emberward's campaign runs through five named regions, from the tutorial greens of Misty Forest to Void Depths, the dungeon the 1.0 update added as its finale. The region names and Void Depths mechanics are official; the middle regions' creature-and-hazard detail survives mainly through a July 2024 press review of Early Access, labeled here for what it is.

Last updated & fact-checked: 2026-09-20Partially confirmed

Five regions, five rule-changes: each area of Emberward rewrites something about how mazes work, which is why the campaign never feels like the same game twice in a row.

The five regions in order

#RegionEraThe one-line hook
1Misty ForestLaunch (EA, 2024)The gentle teacher: bridges, water, boost tiles
2Bone DesertLaunch (EA, 2024)Hazards that fight back: totems, lava tiles, enemy ground
3Frost RuinsEA update (2024)The frozen climb
4Sealed Citadelv0.4.0 (2024)Power circuits and hostile ancient towers
5Void Depths1.0 (September 2026)Sinking floors, portals, crystal-runed ground

The list of five is official: the 1.0 "Emberwarder" achievement names all five regions in one requirement (Heroic, 24 shards, no event character), which is the cleanest roster confirmation possible.

Misty Forest and Bone Desert

⚠️ Press review of the Early Access build, July 2024. Mechanics below may have shifted since; they describe the game's opening act as launched, not necessarily as tuned today.

Misty Forest is the onboarding: wooden bridges, water pools, warm tree color, and monsters that teach one lesson each (creeps that split on death, wolves whose howl briefly malfunctions towers). Its boss is a giant fire elemental that burns your towers down, buying you time to finish a maze that mows it in return:

The first region's finale: a giant flame creature meets the maze. In-game capture.

Bone Desert is where the game starts arguing back: healing totems revive creeps walking their lane, lava tiles corrupt your placed blocks, enemy territory only expands if you build adjacent to it, and bone structures must be sold before building. Its monsters include burrowing sandworms and orcs that disable towers. The boss fight runs on a moving train: every two waves a cannon shot frees another car, expanding the maze space as the fight escalates.

Frost Ruins

The official record names it (the Emberwarder list; community players call the region's terrain "frozen land" and its pre-official name era is visible in old Reddit posts). A launch-window forum thread about a stalled final-wave boss ("the frozen land") is the main community paper trail. Specific mechanics for Frost Ruins are not in any official note we hold; rather than invent them, we leave the row honest and point to the Compendium in-game. The region's battles, at a glance:

A snowfield siege: four magic towers sweep the ice with purple and blue area effects. In-game capture.

Sealed Citadel

Added in the v0.4.0 update (2024, per the update's announcement), and designed as Early Access's final exam, per the later Dev Chat. Its signature systems, from community play threads: power circuits you connect across the map (the 1x3 poison tower's odd footprint earns its keep here, one player argues) and ancient sniper towers, hostile structures with huge range that disable your towers, which a Normal-difficulty player memorably fought against. Narrow bridges and corrupted tiles constrain block play; a 2024 community feedback thread documents both the love and the frustration. The boss drew repeated help-me threads, which is the community's review in miniature.

Void Depths: the 1.0 finale

The best-documented region, straight from the 1.0 announcement and Dev Chat: a forgotten dungeon consumed by the Void over centuries, with mutated monsters and energy crystals. Its three mechanics, in the developer's own framing:

The developer's own difficulty note: harder to make than the four regions before it, combined, with the focus pushed back onto pure maze-craft: "simply using blocks to build walls won't be enough". A new boss waits at the end (officially teased, deliberately undescribed). Clearing Void Depths on Normal or higher also unlocks the Void Flame, and it re-gates the event characters until cleared once.

FAQ

How many regions does Emberward have?

Five: Misty Forest, Bone Desert, Frost Ruins, Sealed Citadel and Void Depths. The first four shipped during Early Access; Void Depths arrived with 1.0 in September 2026.

Which region is hardest?

Officially, the developer calls Void Depths the hardest to build and Sealed Citadel was designed as the Early Access finale. Community struggle-posts cluster on Sealed Citadel's boss and the shard-24 versions of late regions.

What is Misty Graveyard?

Not an official region name. A Steam forum thread asked where to find "the Misty Graveyard"; the five-region official list has no such region. It may be an old event map or community nickname; until something official surfaces, it is not on our map either.

Do I have to beat all five regions?

To see the credits, yes; to unlock event characters and Infernal Shards, also yes (1.0 rule: including Void Depths, any difficulty). The mode structures around the campaign are on the modes page.
